Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 1, 2025
At Fuji Skyline Weather Mapping LLC, we take privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what we don't do. We've written it in plain English because legal jargon helps nobody. If you have questions after reading this, contact us at maps@fujiskyline.com.
What We Collect
Contact form submissions: When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, topic selection, and message. We use this information to respond to your inquiry. We don't add you to any mailing list unless you explicitly request it. We don't share this data with third parties. We retain contact form submissions for up to 24 months for reference purposes, then delete them.
Cookie consent preference: When you interact with our cookie banner, we store your choice (accept or decline) in your browser's localStorage. This is purely functional — it remembers your choice so we don't show you the banner on every visit. This data never leaves your device. We don't transmit it to our servers or any third party.
Server logs: Our web hosting provider records standard server logs including your IP address, browser type, referring page, and timestamp. These logs are used for troubleshooting and security purposes only. They're retained for 30 days and then automatically deleted. We don't analyze these logs for marketing or user tracking purposes.
What We Don't Collect
We don't use Google Analytics or any similar tracking service. We don't embed social media widgets that track your browsing. We don't use fingerprinting or canvas tracking. We don't build user profiles. We don't sell data to anyone, because we don't collect the kind of data that would be valuable to sell.
Our weather data comes from the Open-Meteo API. When your browser fetches weather data, it connects directly to Open-Meteo's servers (api.open-meteo.com). We don't proxy these requests through our servers, which means we don't see your IP address in the weather API calls. Open-Meteo's privacy policy governs those requests, and you can review it at open-meteo.com.
Cookies
We use cookies and localStorage for two purposes only:
Essential functionality: Remembering your cookie consent preference so the banner doesn't reappear on every page load. This is stored in localStorage, not a traditional cookie, but serves the same functional purpose.
Analytics (optional): If you click "Accept" on the cookie banner, we may load a basic analytics script that helps us understand which ward pages are most visited and how users navigate the site. This is anonymous aggregate data — we don't track individual users across sessions. If you click "Decline," no analytics script loads and no analytics data is collected.
You can change your cookie preference at any time by visiting our Cookie Controls page or by clearing your browser's localStorage for fujiskyline.com.
How We Use Data
We use collected data only for the purpose it was provided. Contact form submissions are used to respond to inquiries. Server logs are used for security and troubleshooting. Anonymous analytics (if consented) are used to understand site usage patterns and improve content.
We don't use automated decision-making or profiling. We don't share data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies (beyond the basic anonymous analytics described above). We don't transfer data outside the United States or Japan except as necessary to respond to your inquiry.
Data Retention
Contact form submissions: up to 24 months.
Server logs: 30 days.
Cookie consent preference: until you clear your browser data or change your preference.
Anonymous analytics data (if collected): up to 12 months.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Since we collect minimal personal data, these rights are straightforward to exercise. To request access, correction, or deletion of your data, email us at maps@fujiskyline.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
If you're in the European Union, you have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to object to processing. We don't actively market to EU residents, but if you're visiting our site from the EU, these rights apply.
Children's Privacy
Our website is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date. We won't notify you individually of minor changes, but we'll post a notice on the site for significant changes.
